A Celebration of Skål Spirit at Home and Across the Ditch

What an incredible few weeks it’s been for Skål International Australia! Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the 111th Skål Australia National Assembly in Broome. It was a truly memorable event, bringing together passionate Skålleagues from across the country and around the world for three days of connection, collaboration, and celebration in one of Australia’s most unique and picturesque destinations. From the sparkling "Prosecco & Pearls" evening at Willie Creek Pearls to the inspiring Tourism Panel and B2B Expo, the powerful presentations at our National Assembly, and the unforgettable Gala Dinner at Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa, every moment showcased the strength and camaraderie of the Skål family. And to finish with brunch at Spinifex Brewery was just ideal, before farewelling everyone and heading home. I hope you enjoy the full wrap up of this event in this month’s newsletter.

Shortly after, I had the great honour of representing Australia at the Skål New Zealand National Assembly held in Christchurch. Let me say—it was an absolute privilege to be among such a warm and welcoming group of Skålleagues, and to see first-hand the energy and professionalism of our counterparts across the Tasman. The Assembly offered outstanding opportunities for networking and learning, with dynamic speakers, engaging panel discussions, and thought-provoking conversations that reinforced the global impact of our organisation.

The social program was just as impressive. The Welcome Event held at the summit of the Christchurch Gondola offered breathtaking panoramic views and the perfect setting to kick off the weekend. And the Gala Dinner at the International Antarctic Centre was simply unforgettable—with pre-dinner drinks amongst the immersive Antarctic exhibits (I am very glad we experienced the Hägglund ride BEFORE dinner!), and wonderful entertainment and dancing creating a truly magical evening. Congrats to the New Zealand Skålleague of the Year, Bruce Garrett.

Events like these highlight the true value of Skål—fostering lifelong friendships, expanding our professional networks, and sharing ideas that elevate tourism worldwide. Whether in Broome or Christchurch, the Skål spirit was alive and well. I encourage all members to take every opportunity to attend national and international Skål events. There is simply no better way to strengthen our connections, gain inspiration, and be reminded of why we do what we do.

In friendship and Skål,
